Last week I wrote about the importance of reviewing the events of your 2016, and carrying those learnings into 2017.
So – with the New Year 2017 still fresh – here are my 3 tips to help you achieve your 2017 goals.
My 1st tip: Be honest.
Choose 2 or 3 areas in your life where you need to make a change, and write one specific year goal for each. Areas may be family, health, career, finance, emotional, spiritual, social, community, educational … whatever is important to you.
Choosing a few areas to change helps you focus on a few changes rather than spreading yourself thin across too many areas.
My 2nd tip: Write 3 or 4 steps you must take to reach each goal.
Write down the ‘how’ of reaching your 2017 goal in each area.
Having a number of steps will help you gain momentum throughout the year. You will achieve mini-goals as you progress towards your major goal in each life area.
My 3rd tip: Share your goals.
Often we don’t share our goals with others because, if we don’t achieve our goal, we won’t look like a failure.
But sharing your goal means someone else can hold you accountable. Why? Because they want you to achieve!
Sharing your goals with those around you also makes you more accountable to yourself. You can’t pretend you have no goals if you have told someone about them!
It doesn’t need to be your partner or a family member. In fact, it may be more helpful to have someone else. They in turn may ask you to hold them accountable for something they want to change.
Check in with them regularly. Doing so will keep your goal front and centre throughout the year and keep you focused.
Focusing in one area will help you focus on other areas of your life.
Keep your written goals in a prominent place (or several places e.g. wall, computer, phone) where you see them constantly. As they become part of your life, you will automatically tailor your daily activities to achieve your annual goals.
To your success!
