Self-Esteem

Managing Self-Esteem

self esteem

Self-esteem is your opinion of yourself—and is strongly related to how you view and react to events in your life.

It’s normal for people to feel down about themselves from time to time but, when these feelings start to hang around all the time, it’s usually an indication of low self-esteem. Having low self-esteem means that you have negative ideas and feelings about your worth and value as a person. There are various signs of low self-esteem, including:

  • Being very critical of yourself
  • Focusing on the negatives and ignoring your accomplishments
  • Comparing yourself to others
  • Not accepting any compliments you receive
  • Negative self-talk.

It may be that those around you don’t have enough self-esteem to be positive towards you—or those around them!
