Are You Smothering Your Partner?

Have you noticed that some people just seem to smother their partner?

Even when they have a great partner who treats them well, they smother them to a point that can make the other person wanting space or even out of the relationship.

Some of the common forms of smothering I see are:
• You insist that the two of you spend all your spare time together? Spending too much time together without having outside interests and desires can be the kiss of death for a relationship. Keeping the spark going in your romance means not smothering it by spending too much time together.

• You don’t give them alone time? Everyone needs time for themselves. If your partner is an introvert, they differently need time alone to recharge their batteries.

• You insist they cannot see their friends without you being present? Everyone needs time to go out and have fun with their friends.

• You always expect that everything is done your way and get upset or disappointed when it doesn’t go your way? How does that help the other person to feel loved and appreciated?

• You call or text them several times during the day? Give your partner some space and time to do their daily routine, otherwise are you just checking up them because you don’t trust them?

If you have been in a relationship where you have been cheated on or lied to, then some of these things will be on your radar and rightly so. But … in your smothering to make sure this relationship does not fail; you might just be putting too much pressure on your partner.

If any of this sounds familiar, you need to make a change starting today
